My Property Doesn’t Have a Basement - Why do I Need Back-up of Sewer and Drain Coverage?

Standard home insurance does not include sewer and drain and you might think if you don’t have a basement, you don’t need it anyway – but you would be wrong. Sewer and drain includes damage from the pipes running from the street to the house so you might still get sewer backup into the home.

The pipes running from your home to the sewer lines can get clogged and can also be damaged, broken or clogged by tree roots – so you just don’t know when or if a backup will occur.

Sewer backup insurance also covers the expense of having standing sewage removed from your house and repairing the damage caused by it, up to coverage limits. What sewer backup insurance does not cover is a faulty or damaged plumbing system in your house so verify that your regular policy covers that.

Finally, sewer backup insurance may not cover damages that happen gradually over time due to lack of maintenance. That’s why it’s important to maintain your properties.
